Notice to Greenhouse Growers: New regulations affecting PCP registered chemicals “Protected Agriculture Stewardship Standards”

We are getting close to the registration deadline for the new audit program that certifies greenhouse growers to be able to purchase PCP registered chemicals. The program is Protected Agriculture Stewardship Standards.

What are the standards?

The protected Agriculture Stewardship program was established to assist protected agriculture operators in the identification and mitigation of risks associated with pesticide application with the Longer-Term goal of continuous environmental, health and safety improvements. The standards consist of a series of auditable protocols.

Who do the standards apply to?

The standards apply to all protected agriculture operators in Canada using PCP products labelled for greenhouse use. Protected agriculture refers to crops that are grown under structures such as greenhouses, shade houses, hoop houses, high tunnels, warehouses, etc.

What's the timeline?

All protected agriculture operators mush be registered by December 31, 2023 in order to be eligible to purchase and receive PCP products labelled from greenhouse use in 2024. Final audit under the program must be completed by June 30, 2024.

What happens in 2024 if I do not register?

Starting on January 1, 2024 distributors and retailers of PCP registered products labelled for greenhouse use will be required to verify that a greenhouse operator has registered for the Protected Agriculture Stewardship Standards.
